Frequently Asked Questions About Zakat in Pakistan

Guidance based on Islamic jurisprudence and standard Pakistani banking practices.

What is the Nisab threshold for Pakistan in 2026?

Nisab is the minimum qualifying amount of wealth. The silver threshold is 52.5 tolas (~612.36 grams), which in 2026 equals approximately Rs. 260,000–Rs. 280,000. The gold threshold is 7.5 tolas (~87.48 grams), equivalent to ~Rs. 2.1M+. If your net liquid wealth meets or exceeds the Nisab and has been held for one lunar year (Hawl), 2.5% Zakat is obligatory.

Is Zakat due on personal property, cars, and home appliances?

No. Zakat is not due on items for personal daily use: your primary residence, personal vehicle, clothing, furniture, or household equipment. However, real estate bought specifically for resale (trading inventory) is Zakatable at its current market value.

How do I prevent automatic bank deduction on 1st Ramadan?

Under the Zakat and Ushr Ordinance 1980, Pakistani commercial banks automatically deduct 2.5% Zakat on saving and profit-and-loss sharing (PLS) accounts on the 1st of Ramadan. To exempt your account, you must submit a signed CZ-50 Zakat Declaration Affidavit (Form CZ-50) to your bank branch before the 1st of Sha'ban.

How is Zakat calculated on Islamic Mutual Funds (e.g., Al-Meezan)?

For open-ended Islamic mutual funds like Meezan Rozana Amdani Fund or Al Meezan Sovereign Fund, Zakat is computed on the fund's underlying zakatable assets per unit. Management companies publish annual Zakat per unit values for ease of calculation.
